Join the world of RPG fantasy now with the brand new game Gate Six – Cyber Persona! Featuring turn-based play style, it promises to bring futuristic actions to players. The game is available for download on Android.

The game’s plot

The storyline sets in 2079. The world then is ruled by an evil cyber force, who exchanged their precious souls for power and longevity. Technology has grown to the point where a person’s consciousness can upload directly to the world of digital numbers. Citizens in Gate Six connect with a virtual character, hoping for eternal life.

In this game, you play as Lex – a Cyber Persona. You have found some mysterious occurrence that relates to Gate Six. As a result, you end up going for investigation in this vast world. To complete the storyline, you have to fight other virtual characters – different personas through the streets of Gate Six. You get to develop your unique personality by your own choice.

I find the game’s control to be familiar with JRGP genre. Gate Six – Cyber Persona utilize turn-based moves and special moves. It costs you more to develop powerful attacks – SP points to be exact. You summon units with the game’s currency, and they will be anywhere from 1 to 5 stars.

Every opponent has a different set of tactics. For that reason, you need to be dynamic in your strategies to defeat every single one of them. What is more, your combat formation is a hexagonal system. Each combination of units will result in a distinctive combo. It’s kind of based on the familiar RPG maps. You can encounter random enemies throughout your adventure, adding some novelty to the game’s plot. The developers claim that this game will be a preparation for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, which is a highly anticipated game.

The visual is great

Despite being a release of a Korean team, the game’s art highly resembles Japanese-looking characters. It’s the right choice for me, at least, as games in this genre are mainly from Japan. I would say they’ve taken the safe path – that’s fine and I love how each persona looks. For items in every scene, which mainly are the weapons of units, they receive just the right coloring. They are reflective yet not so shiny to the eyes.

When it comes to actual fighting, the VFX are well-made. It’s not as bright as day, or too dark to be seen, and somehow cartoonish. It meets the eyes, though, and it’s satisfying to see an excellent long combo. The user interface is easy to operate. To the right of your screen, your units’ health bars and special moves are present. There’s a counter for SP points in the middle of your screen. When you’re fighting a boss, which happens quite regularly, its HP appears on the screen’s top. As you only tap to attack, there’s no need for a cursor.

The game performs well in general

I have Gate Six – Cyber Persona installed on my Samsung Galaxy tablet, and it runs effortlessly. As the demand for visual properties is not so high compared to other games, there’s less stress on your processing unit. As a result, battery drainage and overheating are not so severe for this game. I played for 20 minutes, and it feels fine.

Lag spikes rarely occur, if not present. I haven’t played the game for long in a session to witness any crash, but I won’t think that’s going to happen. The smoothness is a surprise to me. Typically, games like this won’t run so well on my device, but this game proves otherwise. The developers must have done an excellent job in optimizing their app to suit various phones and tablets.

It’s easy to control

I find the game’s control to be straightforward. Tap your units, then tap your enemies – they get attacked. I also mentioned special moves earlier, and for a specific SP point, you can execute a particular combo. They appear to the right of the SP counter, which you can select whichever skills you want.

If you don’t feel like controlling every time, there’s an option for automatic operations. Keep in mind, though, because it doesn’t execute powerful moves – you get to do it yourself.

Some tips and tricks

I haven’t played for a long time, but I found some useful methods that you can use.

  • Develop multiple tactics for your squad: As I said before, each of your opponents possesses a different set of skills and difficulty. If a strategy works for one enemy, it may not necessarily be useful for another enemy. Tactical variety plays a vital role in your progress.
  • It’s a good thing to face off random enemies: Other than adding some surprises to players, these enemies are also the chance for you to think of new tactics. Just keep sharpening your squad. Losing won’t matter much – it all lies in your experience.

Final rating and verdict

It’s a mobile game with decent quality, and I would give it a 7/10. In terms of visual settings, it looks fine for a turn-based RPG and gameplay. I think it has what it takes to be interesting. The summoning still feels very random, and they cost a bunch, which is a potential pay-to-win thing, but since the game is new, that shouldn’t be a problem for now.

On the Google Play Store, the developers actively respond to users’ reviews, which is a good thing. Give the game a try now!
